Vehicles crash on snow-covered road

Two vehicles crashed on a snow-covered road in Ryan Township on Tuesday at 2:56 p.m. according to state police at the Frackville barracks.

Police said the accident happened on State Street when a 2008 Chevrolet Impala operated by Stephanie L. Grazel, 27, of Barnesville, was westbound and traveling uphill while negotiating a tight right curve. Police said she lost control of the vehicle, which slid over the center line partly into the oncoming lane, striking the left side of a 2000 Chevrolet utility van driven by David R. Zerby Jr., 24, of Pottsville.After impact, the van continued about 45 feet east, rotated about 35 degrees counter-clockwise and crossed the left lane, coming to rest straddling the westbound lane and shoulder.Police said Zerby exited the vehicle, went into a verbal tirade and fled the scene on foot, returning to the scene a short time later.Police said a witness who had seen the crash occur from her window, assisted Grazel out of her vehicle.Both vehicles required towing from the scene.Police said both drivers will be cited as a result of the crash.The Ryan Township Fire Company/Fire Police responded.
