Dear Editor:

You get what you pay for.I can still remember my grandfather saying this all of the time, when I was a young boy growing up. Of course, back then most things bought in the United States were made here. Now days, most of the time when you are looking to buy something made in America, it can't be found anywhere. This is the reason big businesses like Wal-Mart have become so big all over America today. It seems like most people living, and shopping in America today look at the price of the item they are buying first and most importantly, rather than the quality.However, what people don't realize is; "if you buy something cheaper; it is more than likely made cheap". Things made here in America in the good "old days" were made to last a lot longer, and naturally you paid more for them, but they were made so much better, with quality materials, and you could count on them being manufactured right here in the good old United States of America by hard working American citizens.Today, you go to a store like Wal-Mart to buy a particular item you need, you get it a little cheaper in cost, because it was made somewhere else in the world, and then you complain when it only lasts a short time, until you have to replace it with another one. Whereas, if you would have paid a little more for the same item, only with it being made in America where quality is much more important, it would have lasted a lot longer, and you wouldn't have had to replace it as soon. So, you end up buying this cheaper product over again, and now it cost you more than if you would've originally bought the better "Made in America" product for a little more. What makes better sense to you?Furthermore, I really believe if America started manufacturing good quality made products once again like we did years ago, it would solve most of the economic problems we are all suffering through right now, mainly caused from the vast numbers of the unemployed. America was number one in manufacturing throughout the world when I was a young boy growing up, and my grandfather was absolutely right, when you would hear him say; "You get what you pay for."John M.
