Minor injuries in Schuylkill crashes

Minor injuries were reported in two Schuylkill County crashes that occurred on Saturday, Jan. 5.

State police at Frackville said a crash occurred about 3:25 p.m. along Route 924 (Gold Star Highway), in Gilberton. Troopers said Vincent W. Bloss, 19, of Gilberton, was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan downhill at a left curve when he hit a patch of ice. Bloss lost control of the van, which left the road and struck a PennDOT sign along the berm.The van sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be towed. Bloss was injured but did not require immediate medical attention.A one-vehicle crash occurred about 5:04 p.m. along Route 209 (Market Street), in the village of Cumbola, Blythe Township. Donald H. Nye, 75, of Kaska, was driving a 1985 Lincoln Town Car northbound when he lost control while traveling over ice. The car went onto the berm where it struck a utility pole.Nye and passenger, Marie A. Nye, 75, same address, were taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, by Pottsville ambulance. The car had to be towed from the scene.
