New York man faces multiple charges

A New York state resident is facing multiple charges following an incident that occurred at 7:41 p.m. on Jan. 25, in the Chelsea Circle in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said officers responded to that area, which is located in the Pocono Farms East development, to a report of a male attempting to steal a vehicle from a driveway. Before police arrived they were advised that the male fled in a blue sport utility vehicle. Police located the male within the community. He was identified as Andrew N. Makowicz, 49, of Centereach, N.Y.The investigation revealed that Makowicz attempted to remove a female that was waiting for her husband in her vehicle. The female's husband then confronted Makowicz who fled. He was then observed attempting to steal another vehicle next to the original victim's property but failed.When stopped, police found several bottles of vodka in his vehicle along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Makowicz was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted theft, and one count each of attempted robbery, loitering and prowling at night, driving under the influence, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was lodged in the county prison in Snydersville pending arraignment, police added.
