Weatherly resident flustered over possible rooster

Roosters are still within the boundaries of Weatherly, one resident told borough council Monday.

Donna Knepper, who has raised the issue numerous times, again cried foul over the fowl, saying that roosters are still a problem.

Council prohibited roosters when making changes to an animal ordinance two years ago. A limited number of egg-laying chickens were OK, but not their male counterparts.

Mayor/Council President Mike Bellizia said he has actually gotten up early, parked in front of Knepper’s home and waited to hear roosters crow.

“You know how many roosters I heard?” he asked her.

Knepper responded, “You told me zero.”

Bellizia agreed and said what’s worse is that he called or texted her and asked if the roosters were crowing that particular morning.

“And you said yes, when I was there. I heard not a single rooster,” he told her. “So, now I have a credibility issue.”

Bellizia even drove up and down alleys looking for roosters, and didn’t’ see any, even though Knepper has reported them.

She gave council specific areas to investigate for roosters, which by law don’t belong in the borough.

Bellizia told her that he would look again, and council members tried to nail down the specific area of concern for Knepper.

“I will go back again,” Bellizia said. “We’ll go together. I’ll go look. I respond all the time. I answer you, and I do the things you ask. You can’t ever hold that against me.”

Parade

Council also heard from Police Chief Michael Bogart regarding parking and traffic with the upcoming Carbon County Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 8.

He will be listing all of the no parking rules on the police Facebook page, as he anticipates bottlenecks in town.

The south side of the old borough building will be no parking, and as will all of East Second Street, where they plan to park buses for area bands, he said.

The Planes Road from Route 93 will also be shut down starting at about 11 a.m., when parade registration begins, Bogart said. All other street closures along the route will happen right as the parade gets ready to step off, he said.

Police will allow any waiting traffic to cross the bridge when there is a break in the parade, he said. Otherwise, people will have to detour around the parade route, Bogart said.

Other

In other business, council approved loan modifications agreements to extend lines of credit for the tanks painting, which was $100,000, and the borough building, which is $750,000.
