Tamaqua establishes rental property committee

Tamaqua Borough Council has a new committee that will address rental properties.

The committee was established at this week’s council meeting.

Council President Brian Connely said the borough often hears concerns about rentals, and has had some issues with rentals following fires.

“I’m going to appoint an ad hoc committee to work on and review rental properties, ordinances and some other things,” Connely said.

Council members Robert Amentler, George Haldeman and Ron Bowman will serve on the committee.

“We’ve done something like this similar in the past where we’ve had that committee meet with code enforcement, zoning, police chief and solicitor,” Connely said. “They will sit down and review these things.”

In other business, council:

• Accepted the resignation of part-time police Officer Christopher Daynorowicz.

• Approved requests from the Tamaqua Spirit of Christmas Festival committee to hold the annual event from Dec. 3-6. Council also granted permission for the committee to hold horse-drawn carriage rides on Dec. 10-11 and 17-18 in downtown Tamaqua.
