The Panther Valley School Board appointed a new truant officer, but not everyone was in agreement with the appointment.
Summit Hill resident Roobhenn Smith will be the new truant officer at a pro-rated salary of $29,141.
Board member Roy Angst opposed the appointment, saying he believed the board should have showed its appreciation to people who substituted for the district oftentimes, not an applicant who has never been on the district’s payroll. He added that another applicant who was passed over served the district for the past four years with satisfactory evaluations.
Smith will be replacing Elizabeth Wehr, who will be resigning from the position effective Nov. 27.
