LVHN Health Care Partner of the Month

Lee Ann Phillips, MS, OTR/L

Manager, Acute Care Rehabilitation

Education/training: Lee Ann Phillips obtained an RN diploma from Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Pennsylvania State University and master’s degree in occupational therapy from Misericordia University.

Service line or specialty: Acute Care Rehabilitation at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Carbon

Services offered: The Acute Care Rehabilitation team provides therapy services to help hospitalized patients recover, improve function, and prepare for discharge.

They care for patients with a wide range of diagnoses, including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, orthopedic, and other medical conditions, Lee Ann says.

Occupational therapists help patients regain daily living skills, support cognition, and manage new symptoms of delirium such as disorientation, confusion, and difficulty focusing that may occur during hospitalization.

Physical therapists focus on strength, mobility, balance, vestibular function, and back pain management. The team also provides specialized rehabilitation for patients recovering from stroke and trauma, she says.

How we support our patients: “We provide therapy services for hospitalized patients with a wide range of diagnoses, supporting recovery and a safe return to their prior level of function by discharge,” says Lee Ann. When patients are not ready to return home, we recommend the most appropriate next level of care, which may include acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing rehabilitation, home care, or outpatient therapy.

What you should know: The Acute Care Rehabilitation team is committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality, compassionate care in partnership with nursing and physician colleagues.

Physical and occupational therapists continue to advance their skills through ongoing education, workshops, and specialty certifications.

Colleagues see patients early at bedside to get them moving, assess their needs, and make appropriate discharge recommendations, including family and caregivers in the process to support a safe return home. If patients need continued rehabilitation after discharge, colleagues work with case managers to ensure a smooth transition, without interrupting therapy.

“I am proud to support an exceptional team of therapists who provide excellent care every day,” Lee Ann says.

Lee Ann also manages Acute Care Rehabilitation at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hazleton and Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street.
