Rush adopts part-time police policy

Rush Township supervisors adopted a policy that would dismiss part-time police officers who haven’t worked a certain amount of hours in an approximate two month time frame.

The resolution passed unanimously at Thursday’s regular monthly meeting.

According to township solicitor Chris Riedlinger, under the policy, part-time officers must work at least 16 hours in 60 days to remain employed.

The resolution updates a less strict policy, he said.

“It will be enforced more closely,” Riedlinger said.

The township has seven part-time officers.

Police Chief Rick Weaver is the only full-time police department employee.

In an unrelated matter, the township will sponsor the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association in its application for a Local Share Account grant for the purchase of portable radios.

The ambulance wants to replace aging radios and add additional radios to emergency communications, responder safety and communications with the Schuylkill County 911 Center.
