The Rev. William C. Mayes was formally installed as pastor of Christ United Church of Christ, Jim Thorpe, during a Service of Celebration and Installation held Sunday afternoon.

The occasion also marked the return of the congregation to one church status with a full-time pastor, having formerly been affiliated with the Trinity UCC Parish.

“Called of God” was the theme of the sermon by the Rev. Dr. William T. Longsdorf, president of the Penn Northeast Conference of the United Church of Christ.

James Mertz, president of the church’s consistory, presented the pastor to the congregation.

Rev. Mayes, previously of Lock Haven, is a son of Ella Mayes and the late Roy C. Mayes.
