Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 6

Logan Gillespie of Jim Thorpe and Joshua Cathers of Lehighton both earned first place in cross country races on Tuesday.

Both runners won in decisive fashion at their Colonial League meet at Lehighton.

Elsewhere, Tamaqua’s Joey Vidzicki posted another hat trick to lead her team to a soccer win.

CROSS COUNTRY

CL meet at Lehighton

Jim Thorpe’s Logan Gillespie and Lehighton’s Joshua Cathers both won their respective races in a multi-team Colonial League meet at Lehighton.

Gillespie finished in 19:18.0, almost two minutes faster than runner-up Grace Cathers of Lehighton, to help her team go 5-2. Thorpe’s Stacy Bos ended third.

The Indians, who went 4-3, also received a sixth place from Anna Hawk.

In the boys competition, Lehighton had an area best of 5-2 as Cathers crossed in 17:20.8, more than 30 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. The Indians also received a top-10 finish from Ezra Berros (10th).

Jim Thorpe’s Jakob Sheckler ended fourth as the Olympians went 3-4.

CL meet at Southern Lehigh

The Northwestern boys posted a 4-2 record, while the Tiger girls went 3-3 in a multi-team Colonial League meet at Southern Lehigh.

Noah Griffith was the top NW finisher in the boys race, placing fourth in a time of 16:48.4. The Tigers had three other runners in the top 10 — Michael Richards (seventh), Brady Furman (ninth) and Isaac Grubb (10th).

In the girls competition, Rosalia Nestor crossed third for Northwestern in 19:23.8. Katie Furman added a ninth-place finish for the Tigers.

The Spartan teams both went 6-0.

Panther Valley extended its winning streak to six matches with a straight-set Schuylkill League Division I victory over Lourdes, 25-18, 25-7, 25-15.

Jaelynn Browdy led the Panthers with 11 kills, 27 assists and seven aces. Jessica Hackash and Danika Blazosky both added 10 kills apiece, with Blazosky also recording 15 assists.
