Gabriel Chamber Ensemble will open its 37th concert season at 3 p.m. Sunday with “Adoration and Defiance,” an afternoon of chamber music featuring works by Clara Schumann, Ludwig van Beethoven and Dmitri Shostakovich. The concert will take place at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 252 Dock Street, Schuylkill Haven.

The program brings together three distinctive musical voices whose compositions explore the depths of human emotion, from lyrical tenderness and quiet reflection to dramatic intensity and spirited expression.

The afternoon opens with Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 17. Composed in 1846, this work showcases Schumann’s gift for melody and her mastery of musical form, blending lyrical beauty with moments of passion and intensity.

The program continues with the Cavatina (Adagio molto espressivo) from Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 13, Op. 130.

The concert concludes with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57.

The performers are Dana Allaband, Simon Maurer, Agnes Maurer, Sara Male, and Xun Pan.
