Northwestern enjoyed a big night across the fall sports landscape Wednesday, earning convincing victories in boys and girls soccer while also picking up a win in volleyball.
Cole Mertz scored four goals in the boys soccer team’s 12-2 victory over Saucon Valley, Juliet Snyder and Amelia Glassberg each recorded hat tricks in a 9-1 girls soccer win over the Panthers, and Lexi George became Northwestern’s career digs leader as the volleyball team topped Jim Thorpe 3-1.

Tamaqua-Marian
Shaylee Gormley and Joey Vidzicki each had three goals and an assist to pace Tamaqua to a 7-1 victory over Marian in Schuylkill League play.

Northern Lehigh celebrated Senior Night with a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Palisades.
The Bulldogs scored the game’s only goal when senior Kellen Bauer’s long throw-in resulted in a Palisades own goal. Gus Rosario made three saves to record the shutout.
The victory gave first-year head coach Jay Ohland’s team its sixth league win of the season, tying the 2011 team for the most league victories in program history, according to information provided by the Northern Lehigh program. It was also the Bulldogs’ first victory over Palisades since 2011.

Aiden Elston placed second overall to lead Tamaqua during a Schuylkill League meet with Blue Mountain and Pine Grove.
Elston finished in 17:42, just one second behind Blue Mountain winner Temaglia Quinnlon, who crossed the finish line in 17:41. Parker Steencken was fifth, and Memphis Kline sixth for the Blue Raiders.
In the girls race, Shaylee Gormley led Tamaqua with a fourth-place finish, while Payton O’Brien placed sixth. Blue Mountain’s Emma Lazarchick won in 21:32.
Both Tamaqua teams finished 1-1, and moved to 6-2 in Schuylkill League Division I.

Moravian Academy captured the Colonial League girls tennis tournament championship with 17 points, edging Saucon Valley, which finished with 15.
Jim Thorpe’s Anjali Chiulli and Ella Ramey each earned victories in the pigtail round. Chiulli defeated Bangor’s Sophie Romeo 6-3 at No. 2 singles before falling to top-seeded and eventual champion AnneMarie Andres of Moravian Academy, 8-0, in the quarterfinals.
Ramey defeated Salisbury’s Brinlee Neitz 6-1 at No. 3 singles before falling to second-seeded Emma Cassady of Moravian Academy, 8-0, in the quarterfinals.
At No. 1 singles, Thorpe’s Noelanie Sepulveda fell to Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Paige Yuric, 6-1. The Olympians’ Matylda Burzynski and Amanda Martell lost to Notre Dame’s Soledad Zavada and Piper Davis, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles, while Milo Brown and Summer Pecic fell to Notre Dame’s Sharooni Nimalan and Sophia Mascera, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles.
