As a Carbon County voter, I believe our community deserves the opportunity to hear directly from both candidates seeking to represent us in Congress.

The 7th Congressional District race includes Carbon County, and voters here should be able to hear where the candidates stand on the issues affecting our families, businesses, and communities. Candidate Bob Brooks has stalled debating and refused to debate on BRC 13.

A debate was discussed with Blue Ridge Cable 13 for September, and Congressman Ryan Mackenzie indicated that he was willing to participate in a September debate. Bob Brooks declined, while Mackenzie’s campaign has continued to push for one in Carbon County.

Debates give voters an opportunity to hear candidates answer questions directly and compare their positions without campaign advertising or prepared statements filtering the discussion. Carbon County deserves that opportunity.

If Brooks wants to earn the trust of voters in Carbon County, appearing before those voters and answering their questions should be part of the process. Congressman Mackenzie has said he is willing to come to Carbon County and debate, giving residents here the chance to hear his priorities and record firsthand like he did in 2024.

It’s about respecting voters enough to show up, answer questions, and explain what each candidate would do if elected.

Carbon County is an important part of the 7th Congressional District. Our voters deserve to hear from both candidates before making their decision on November 3. Carbon County voters deserve nothing less.
