State police at the Hazleton barracks reported that they were called to a hit-and-run at 3:59 p.m. on Sept. 6 on Grist Mill Road, Packer Township.

They said Paul W. Sholtis, 46, of Weatherly, was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze when he stopped in the roadway to speak to another motorist.

He told police that a vehicle began to approach the Cruze in the oncoming lane, and when Sholtis started to open the door of his car in anticipation of exiting, the operator of the oncoming vehicle accelerated toward the Cruze, striking it’s driver’s side door. The vehicle then fled the scene, police said.

It was described as a green sedan.
