A Tamaqua man who said he was working as an independent delivery driver was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol by Tamaqua police on Sept. 21.

Later that day, Jammy Lawson, 55, was charged with disorderly conduct for blowing an air horn and yelling and screaming in the street, police said.

In the first incident, police were monitoring traffic around 6 p.m. at Mauch Chunk and Greenwood streets when they saw a vehicle with an expired registration pass by and recognized the driver, Lawson, who has a suspended license.

Officers stopped Lawson and said he had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol when he handed over an expired identification card. He told officers that he was “just trying to make a living doing Door Dash.”

Police also charged Lawson with driving while operating privileges are suspended and driving without a license.

At 8 p.m., police were contacted by a man who said Lawson was yelling and screaming then set of an air horn repeatedly.

Police said they told Lawson several times over the past week to stop yelling, blasting music and waving a large knife in the middle of the street, and had charged him when he did not comply.

Officers located Lawson, who they said was stumbling in the street. He was taken into custody and police found a large knife in his possession, they said. He was also charged with public drunkenness.
