I am a Baby Boomer; you need to know that, and it will become apparent why in just a moment.

Let’s talk electronics, computers, and other technology, specifically, TVs. I have several “Smart” TVs, the name of which I consider to be a misnomer. When I was a kid in the 50s, my TV had 3 knobs on it: on/off, volume, and change channel. Speaking of channels, our choice was limited to six.

I love technology; I had my first personal computer in 1980. Since then, I have had at least twenty computers; I had a cellphone in 1990 when a one-minute phone call cost ninety cents.

Several things have gone wonky with my smart TVs over the past few years, but today was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. It would not turn on. I am savvy enough to know that an overloaded cache can cause it not to turn on, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in …. nothing.

This forced me to turn to the Internet for answers, and behold, it gave me the proper routine to solve the problem; it worked.

Here’s my point … … at this time in electronics evolution and given that they labeled the culprit a “Smart” TV, this item should be able to diagnose itself and fix the problem without my intervention and resultant agita.

None of this will cause me to go off the grid, but I wish the techs and coders would do a better job of making all this stuff bulletproof or at least marginally easier for all of us.
