Area runners shine at Centaur Invite

Area runners turned in a dominant showing in the middle school races at Saturday’s Centaur Invitational at DeSales University, sweeping the top eight places in the boys race and capturing the girls individual title.

Tamaqua’s Jackson Koneschusky won the 171-runner boys race in 11:28.3. Jim Thorpe’s Isaiah Schrimkovsky was second, followed by Palmerton’s Ryan Meixell in third and Marian’s Nicholas Keer in fourth.

Weatherly’s Owen Titus placed fifth, Tamaqua’s Jack Birdsall was sixth, Northwestern’s Holden Hoyt finished seventh and Palmerton’s William Craig completed the area sweep in eighth.

Palmerton also captured the boys team title, while Tamaqua placed third. Weatherly finished sixth and Jim Thorpe seventh.

In the 124-runner girls race, Jim Thorpe’s Anna Cunningham claimed the individual title in 11:29.2, while Northwestern’s Briar Killar finished second.

Northwestern’s Adalyn Heintzelman placed fifth and Layla Heeps was 11th. Jim Thorpe also had Grace Smith finish 13th, Chelsea Halenar 15th and Sofia Cuddy 17th, while Lehighton’s Mason Spitzer placed 16th.

Northwestern finished second in the girls team standings, followed by Jim Thorpe in third. Tamaqua placed 10th.
