LV IronPigs to change name of their stadium

Through its first 19 seasons, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs have called their home Coca-Cola Park.

For at least the next decade-and-a-half, they will call it Jefferson Park now that the IronPigs have partnered with Jefferson Health on a 15-year stadium naming rights deal.

It was announced in February that Coca-Cola was ending its 20-year association with the IronPigs to hold the naming rights to the park. The search for a new rights holder began even before the official announcement, and culminated recently with the new deal.

Kurt Landes, president and general manager of the IronPigs, said that the search for a new partner was far more than just adding a different name to the Lehigh Valley Landmark.

“We wanted to be very deliberate to find the right partner, and that was a process,” said Landes. “We had a lot of meetings not only with Jefferson, but with other great partners, both regionally and nationally. At the end of the day, you want a great local partner that has the same beliefs and vision for the future of this ballpark.”

The new deal begins in 2027, with Opening Night set for March 30, 2027. The IronPigs are currently in the middle of their final home series of the season. The upcoming Illumination holiday lights display this winter will be one of the final events as Coca-Cola Park.

“Jefferson is proud to stand alongside the IronPigs in a partnership that reflects our commitment to strengthen the communities in which we serve,” said Joseph G. Cacchione, MD, Chief Executive Officer, Jefferson. “As with the upcoming Jefferson Lehigh Valley Classic, we are committed to making a long-term positive impact on the Lehigh Valley and the surrounding areas.”

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Coca-Cola Park has a great legacy, and there are so many people that have this great attachment to Coca-Cola Park, and it’s going to be a little bit of a transition,” said Landes. “It’s going to be the same great ideas, promotions, and fun, and we’re going to build on that. There are going to be a lot of announcements in the future because of Jefferson’s investment that will allow us to do more at the ballpark, either physical investments or investments in the community or programs that we can do.”

The IronPigs plan on joining with Jefferson and Capital Blue Cross, who is the presenting sponsor to continue a healthy and family-oriented venue for events like baseball, Illumination, and other events that are held at the ballpark.

“There’s going to be a lot of synergy about creating healthy family living, and that can be any number of community programs,” Landes noted. “The ink’s almost still drying on the contract, but we were so excited about this that we wanted to announce it as soon as possible. We’ll get together with those sponsors and others to see what programs make sense that support our fans to lead clean, healthy, family fun, and friendly living.”

The biggest notable change at the park is going to be atop the huge video board in the outfield. The Coca-Cola logo with the bottle that rocks back-and-forth and shoots off fireworks when the IronPigs score a run will become a thing of the past. One big question for fans is: what’s going to happen to the iconic display?

“The Coke bottle is such an iconic piece of the ballpark, and it’s going to be important that we work together with Jefferson to create something that’s also entertaining,” said Landes. “I don’t know what that is yet, but I know we’re dedicated to coming up with something that I think our fans can be proud of and be just as entertaining.”
