Lehighton’s Johnny Bennett turned in a strong showing on one of Oswego Speedway’s biggest weekends, finishing fourth in the 18th and final Dave London Memorial.

Bennett was among 35 Super Stocks on hand for the 50-lap event, which was part of Friday’s Stock Car Spectacular during the 70th annual Budweiser International Classic Weekend at the famed New York oval.

Garrett Zacharias charged through the field from the 24th starting position to capture the victory and earn his third Dave London Memorial triumph. Jacob Gustafson finished second, Nick Robinson was third, Bennett crossed the line fourth and Brian Hallett completed the top five.

Bennett was in contention throughout the feature. He was running fifth at the halfway point behind Robinson, Zacharias, Gustafson and Eric Kocher before gaining a position by the finish.

The fourth-place performance continued a successful season at Oswego for Bennett. The Lehighton driver earned a Super Stock feature victory at the speedway earlier this summer.

Several other competitors with ties to the Times News coverage area were part of Friday’s program, which also included the 20-lap New York State Compact Championship.

Palmerton’s Trisha Connolly finished ninth in the Compact feature. Dylan Napier captured the victory, with Nick Robinson second and B.J. Wambold third. Maggie Wambold finished fourth and Brandon Measheaw rounded out the top five.

Walnutport’s Corey Edelman and Schnecksville’s Cody Kohler, who competed in a Lehighton-owned Compact, were also among the locally connected drivers at the event. Kohler picked up a heat-race victory during Friday’s program. Adam Stiegerwalt competed in the Super Stock division.

Friday’s Stock Car Spectacular opened a three-day Classic Weekend at Oswego that featured seven races and culminated Sunday with the 200-lap Budweiser International Classic.
