Chestnuthill Township received a $750,000 Local Share Account grant for the West End Fairgrounds.

The funding will be used for projects in the livestock area, overall improvements to the fairgrounds and construction of a new building.

One of the new buildings will include a classroom that will be used by 4-H and other groups as needed.

The grant was discussed at the recent township supervisors meeting.

Several events are scheduled at the township park in the coming weeks. A blood drive will be held Friday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The park’s Halloween Spectacular is scheduled for Oct. 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. A rain date has been set for Oct. 24.

West End Regional Park will host a cross-country meet Sept. 15, with Pleasant Valley High School serving as host. The event will be held from 4-6 p.m., and the park will be closed from noon to 6 p.m. Six varsity high school teams will participate, with both boys and girls races scheduled.

Also at the meeting:

• The fire company reported responding to 42 calls in July and 306 calls to date this year.

• The supervisors approved advertising for bids on three blocks of lots for sale in the Sun Valley development.

• Township officials approved increasing the mileage reimbursement rate to match the Internal Revenue Service rate increase that took effect July 1, rising from 72.5 cents per mile to 76 cents per mile.

• Representatives of Members 1st Federal Credit Union requested several modifications and waivers related to landscaping and security cameras. The supervisors approved the requests.

• During public comment, Larry Daricek raised concerns about stormwater issues on Merwinsburg Road. The township roadmaster said he would inspect the area.
