carbon Co. school board train wrecks

Dear Editor,

Are there any other Carbon County residents out there that feel like our school boards are a complete waste? Why is there constant turmoil?

Reading about the meetings of my local, Palmerton School board meetings is becoming more comical than the old TV show “All in the Family,” except that it always costs me, a senior citizen, more money, on a regular basis.

We have a superintendent getting full pay but not showing up for work. We can’t talk about it publicly. So we pay two people for the same job, great!

We build a new building, which isn’t needed, on unstable ground so who knows where costs will go? We have to have “state of the art” artificial turf fields, which have about 15 years before an expensive overhaul, when we could have spent a fraction of that cost by hiring a local turf expert to maintain real grass every year instead of the school maintenance people, who can’t make grounds a priority.

Other local school districts also look like train wrecks.

Can I do better? No, and I would rather watch real grass grow with my time.

However, the school board members need to evaluate whether or not they are working for the taxpayer that voted them in. Stop the soap operas!
