Local Roundup: Results from Aug. 31

Gabby Kutzler scored four goals to power Pleasant Valley to a 5-0 field hockey victory over Pocono Mountain West, while Marian opened its volleyball season with a five-set win over Pine Grove in Monday’s local scholastic action.

Kutzler accounted for four of the Bears’ five goals as Pleasant Valley improved to 2-0, while the Fillies used a balanced attack to battle past Pine Grove in their season opener.

Gabby Kutzler exploded for four goals to lead Pleasant Valley to a 5-0 EPC victory over Pocono Mountain West.

The Bears, who held a 2-0 halftime lead, also received a goal from Emma DePalma.

The results also snapped the Golden Bears’ four-match winning streak.

Carter Grant led all golfers, as the Colts’ No. 1 carded a medalist score of 77. Teammate Brayden Grant followed with an 83.

Cam Chilinskas finished with a team-low of 91 for the Golden Bears.

Addy Marek led a balanced Fillies attack with 12 kills to go along with seven digs and three aces. Kali Grochowski posted a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs, while Maddy Davis added eight kills, 13 digs and seven aces.

JoElle Currie directed the offense with 38 assists and also contributed four kills, 11 digs and three aces. Reagan LeClair finished with six kills and 11 digs, while Cara Rehnert added five kills and a team-high 16 digs.

Eliana Marques directed the Spartans’ attack with 37 assists, while Amelia McCoy finished with a match-high 15 kills to go along with three aces and three digs. Zoe Siuta added seven kills, while Lydia Bartlett and Sarah Jones both contributed five apiece.

For Northwestern, Lexi George recorded a match-high 18 digs. Kayla Schaffer finished with 12 assists, nine digs and three kills, while Anna Ebeling contributed six kills, two blocks and an ace.
