The Eldred Township supervisors will be holding a public hearing in September on their data center ordinance.

The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16, the same night as the supervisors’ regular meeting.

“PC (Planning Commission) had forwarded data ordinance. We’ve done all the steps to get it ready to go,” said Supervisor Scott Clark, chairman.

Also under ordinances, the township’s planning commission is working on an ordinance to govern the care of chickens and other fowl.

“That’s coming along well. … We’re working on that one and hopefully that’s coming soon,” Clark said.

Robert Boileau, a member of the planning commission, added that some people think the ordinance is going to be more restrictive. It’s not.

“It’s less restrictive by allowing chickens in the residential district,” Boileau said.

In other business, Clark announced that the township has received a $25,000 Demolition Grant from Monroe County to take down the Smale house on Kunkletown Road next to the Stone Arch Bridge.

Supervisor Susan McGinty, who was involved with the grant, said the authority “offers grants for the removal of township-owned properties, if it’s been determined that they’re not usable, and the cost to repair them would exceed their use.”

Clark also announced that the township received a Local Share Account grant for $227,724 to be used on the heating, ventilation and air conditioning project at the municipal building.

“So it’s not quite enough to cover all of it, but we’re well on our way, and we’re moving forward with that project at some point,” Clark said.

Public Works supervisor Jonathan Gula added that he met with HB McClure Co. about the air conditioning project at the Eldred Township Community Center.

“So we’re going to get rid of oil up here and go strictly VRF unit, which is a variable refrigerant flow,” Gula said. “It will be heat and air conditioning, and the only oil that we will use is the radiant floor heat at the garage downstairs.”

Gula said McClure is working on a cost estimate for the work. The company is a design and build company and a COSTARS vendor.

In anticipation that the cost could be higher than expected, the supervisors approved a LSA grant draft to cover those additional costs of the project.

The supervisors also are considering applying for a grant for the township’s Veterans Committee.

The grant would cover the costs of replacing rose bushes that have died and expanding the memorial to include veterans of more recent wars whose names are not yet listed.

Gula suggested applying for a grant through the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau. Those grants are up to $10,000.
