August 28, 1981 — Jennifer Steele’s overtime goal off a corner play lifts Lehighton to a 3-2 field hockey victory over visiting Saucon Valley in the Indians’ season opener. The Panthers had tied the game in controversial fashion, scoring as regulation ended although Lehighton claimed the tally came after the clock had run out. Steele, however, posts the game-winner early in OT off a feed from Robin Bottcher. The Indians, coached by Sharon Elder, also receive goals from Kathy Maholick and Jodie Sillers.
