August 15, 1969 — Rick Strubinger pitches a two-shutout to lead Jim Thorpe to a 2-0 victory over Coaldale in a Panther Valley Little League tournament contest. Strubinger finishes with 15 strikeouts and is given an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Mike McHale collects two hits for the winners, one of them a home run, while Herman Filer adds a double. Thorpe, which scores three runs in the fifth inning to seal the victory, also receives a hit and two runs from McGinley. Gene Binder and Charlie McGuire both chip in with a hit and a run. For Coaldale, Joe Hedash finishes with both of his team’s hits.
