State police at Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Melvin A. Gonell Ramirez, 19, of Hazleton, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 5:35 p.m. July 5 on Route 209 in Mahoning Township.
Police said he was driving a 2026 Honda Civic southbound when it left its lane of travel and struck a curb. The car had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
He was given a written warning after the crash, according to police.
• Sharon E. Dunbar, 77, of Palmerton, had possible injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 10:35 a.m. July 31 at the intersection of Route 209 and Sherry Drive, Polk Township.
Police said she was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg, by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps.
They said the crash involved a vehicle driven by her and a vehicle operated by Shirley J. Ziegenfus, 68, of West Chester, who was uninjured.
Police did not release other details of the incident.
• Ana Santos Rosa, 43, of Allentown, and Madison T. Long, 20, of Jim Thorpe, had suspected minor injuries after a head-on crash at 10:10 p.m. Aug. 4 on Route 209 in Mahoning Township.
Police said Santos Rosa, who was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Richard Morillo Ramirez, 41, also of Allentown, refused an emergency medical services transport from the scene, while Long was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
Police said the crash occurred as Morillo Ramirez was driving a 2010 Honda Accord southbound when it went into the northbound lane and struck a 2016 Subaru Impreza that was operated by Long.
Police said Morillo Ramirez showed signs of impairment and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and cited for careless driving.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, police said.
