The director of the Carbon County Office of Veterans Affairs, Charles J. McHugh Jr., was appointed to a key position within the State Association of County Directors of Veterans Affairs.

McHugh, 49, of Jim Thorpe, was named Eastern District vice president during the association’s 54th annual convention held in Greenburg.

He has served in the county position since June, 1994.

As the vice president, McHugh will be responsible for “keeping the other county directors in the east informed of matters involving veterans,” he said.

A 1964 graduate of Jim Thorpe High School, McHugh attended Churchman’s Business College, Easton, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.

He has been a member of the Jim Thorpe School District Board of Directors for the past 12 years.
