Franklin Township hopes to shore up its zoning ordinance by next month.

Resident Terry Shaner asked if the township planned to put in anything for data centers.

Supervisor Fred Kemmerer Jr. noted that the township has two drafts.

Resident Jill Renfrew asked what exactly will be done.

“So when you say amendments, are you talking about that whole 2023 draft, a new zoning ordinance, or are you talking some specific amendments?” Renfrew asked.

Township solicitor Tom Nanovic said both.

Kemmerer said last meeting when they talked about interjecting the data centers, they felt it may be better to just do things holistically.

“It’s very comprehensive,” Renfrew said. “It’s going to be a long meeting.”

Shaner asked if the township is designating any land toward data centers.

He then questioned if the township could put a moratorium on for 180 days.

“It seems like we’re not close to coming up with anything,” Shaner said.

Regardless, Kemmerer said he remains confident.

“We have two very good drafts,” Kemmerer said.

Afterward, the board agreed to hold a special meeting to discuss amendments to the zoning ordinance at 6:30 p.m. on either Aug. 5 or Aug. 10.

In March, a resident asked if the township has any laws, regulations or ordinances regarding data centers.
