An auto parts store may be coming to Lansford.

During the Carbon County Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, the board recommended conditional plan approval for the proposed AutoZone store in the east end of town, along Patterson Street. The site would be on a lot next to the Family Dollar.

Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, said that this is the second time the project had come before the commission; however, the first time did not have board action because of a lack of a quorum in May. The comments from the review were automatically submitted to the developer to be addressed.

Meixell said that the planning commission received updates from AutoZone’s surveyor and engineer addressing the review comments for the land development.

While several of the comments have been addressed, Meixell said that the developers still need to obtain a highway occupancy permit from the state for an access point to the property, as well as soil erosion and sedimentation control plan and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits.

They also need to update minor plan issues including certification statements, which the applicant said will be completed before the plan recording.

Following the review, Meixell said that while the above-mentioned comments remain open, the commission cannot recommend final approval, and recommended conditional final approval until the remaining items are addressed.

The recommendation is now sent to Lansford for inclusion in its discussions on the proposed project before a decision is made.

The nearest AutoZones currently are in Tamaqua, Lehighton and Hazleton.
