Towamensing rolls; JT softball claims runner-up
Towamensing took a pair of games against Anthracite in the Panther Valley 9-10 Little League tournament on Sunday.
The Jim Thorpe Senior League all-stars earned their second win at the state tournament on Saturday before falling in the championship game to Lakeland later in the day.

Lakeland 11, Jim Thorpe 1
Lakeland pulled away with six runs in the sixth inning to defeat Jim Thorpe 11-1 on Saturday to claim the Senior League Softball state title.
Lakeland built a 4-0 lead through two innings before breaking the game open in the sixth with six runs on eight hits. Abby Bender drove in three runs with three hits, while Jocelyn Jordan went 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Rylee Beebe added three hits and two RBIs.
Kali Trexler drove in Jim Thorpe’s lone run, while Macayla Lewis, Trexler and Leah Hartman each collected a hit.
Beebe earned the win, allowing one run on three hits while striking out nine over five innings.

Jim Thorpe 11, Southern Tioga 1
Jim Thorpe broke open a close game with a nine-run third inning and rolled past Southern Tioga 11-1 on Saturday in Senior League Softball State Tournament action.
Macayla Lewis drove in three runs and collected two hits to lead Jim Thorpe’s 11-hit attack. Ella McKeon, Mikenah Pruitte and Brynn Thompson each added two hits, while McKeon drove in two runs.
After taking a 1-0 lead on a passed ball in the first inning, Jim Thorpe erupted in the third. Lewis, McKeon, Skelly, Thompson and Leah Hartman all delivered RBI singles during the decisive frame.
Aubrey Jaeger earned the complete-game victory, allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven over five innings.
Emaleigh D’Andrea had two of Southern Tioga’s four hits, while Abby Irwin drove in the team’s lone run.

PANTHER VALLEY 9-10 LL
Towamensing 19, Anthracite 4
Lukas Robertson went 4-for-4 with two doubles and six RBIs to power Towamensing to a 19-4 victory over Anthracite on Sunday in Panther Valley 9-10 Little League Tournament action.
Towamensing scored four runs in the first inning and added six more in the second to build an early 10-2 advantage. The winners broke the game open with five runs in the third and five more in the fourth.
Robertson drove in a run with a single in the first, added a two-run double in the second, delivered a two-run single in the third and capped his day with another two-run double in the fourth.
Jonathon F. added an inside-the-park home run, while Bo Knepper singled, drove in a run, walked three times and scored four runs. Tanner K. also had a hit and an RBI.
Logan S. started on the mound for Towamensing, while Chase G. earned the win in relief. Casey W. and Tanner K. each tossed a scoreless inning.
Ryker S. and Nyxon P. collected Anthracite’s two hits, with Nyxon driving in a run.

Towamensing 21, Anthracite 2
Towamensing erupted for 18 runs in the opening inning and cruised to a 21-2 victory over Anthracite in Panther Valley 9-10 Little League Tournament action Sunday.
Logan S. drove in four runs, delivering a two-run single and drawing two bases-loaded walks. Lukas Robertson earned the pitching victory, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out five over two innings, and Jonathon F. struck out three in a scoreless inning of relief.
Towamensing added three more runs in the second on an RBI fielder’s choice by Tanner K. and bases-loaded walks to Chase G. and Logan.
The winners drew 23 walks in the game, with Jaxson J., Lukas, Reid R. and Casey W. each drawing three. Tanner and Robertson accounted for Towamensing’s two hits.
Conner O. drove in both runs for Anthracite, while Zander S., Conner and Neri T. each recorded a hit.

Tamaqua 19, Anthracite 0
Tamaqua erupted for 11 runs in the first inning and rolled to a 19-0 victory over Anthracite on Friday in Panther Valley 9-10 Little League Tournament action.
George Pinkey and Lucas Brennan each collected three hits to lead Tamaqua’s 16-hit attack. Camdyn Lux, Hunter Hill and Brennan each drove in three runs, while Max Field doubled home two runs during the opening-inning outburst.
Tamaqua added three runs in the second, highlighted by an RBI triple from Ridge Graver and an RBI single by Lux, before scoring five more in the third. Hill delivered a two-run double in the inning, while Pinkey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Lucas added an RBI single.
Mason Keich earned the win, striking out six over two hitless innings. Luke Tuckett worked a scoreless inning of relief with three strikeouts.
Braxton Barrett added two hits for Tamaqua, which finished with 16 hits and played error-free defense.
