Summit Hill Council to fill Wargo’s seat
For the third time this year, Summit Hill Borough Council has a task of filling a vacancy.
The empty seat on the council has occurred as a result of the death of council President David Wargo on June 8.
The council said it will accept applications from borough residents for the position until 4 p.m. on Aug. 11. The appointment to the seat is planned for a special meeting of the council at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 11.
Joe Weber, vice president of the council, said that besides naming a successor for Wargo, the council will also hold a reorganization at that meeting since Wargo had been the president.
Whomever is appointed will be the third individual put on the council this year.
On Jan. 15, Joanie Morana was named to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of then council member Karen Ruzicka. Ruzicka resigned because she won the position of mayor in the borough.
On May 28, Leigh Ann Kruslicky was appointed after council member Lacey Gonzalez had resigned.
The regular August meeting of the borough council has been changed to 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 27.
In other business:
• Shelly Nunemacher was hired to clean the Hilltop Community Center and the borough hall. She replaces Andrea Delacruz, who resigned the part-time position. Delacruz started her own business — a baker on East White Street.
• The council agreed to change the fees for using the Hilltop Community Center to $40 per hour or $45 per hour if utilizing the kitchen. A $100 security deposit is required.
• The fine for failure to remove vehicles from the street for snow plowing on the designated days was increased from $25 to $75. In addition, the fine for failure to move vehicles for street sweeping was raised to $50. Chief of Police Todd Woodward urged that better signage be installed for street sweeping.
• The Summit Hill Historical Society was granted permission to utilize Ludlow Park for a Jay Smar concert from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 23.
• Bob Infante made a request from the Knights of Columbus to use Ludlow Park for a Dog Day in the Park on Aug. 23. The request was granted.
