92nd annual St. Joseph festival set this weekend in SH

St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, Summit Hill, will continue a tradition that started in that community back in 1934 when it hosts the parish’s 92nd annual Summer Festival on the church grounds this weekend.

The festivities, featuring homemade ethnic foods, games, music, a basket auction and drawings for prizes, will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the extreme western end of Ludlow Street in the town.

The festival will get underway each day at 5 o’clock. Friday’s and Sunday’s events will run until 9 p.m., with Saturday open until 10 p.m.

Friday’s entertainment will be provided from 6-9 p.m. by the Pennsylvania Villagers.

On Saturday, Six to Midnight will perform from 6-10 p.m., with Catch 23 performing from 6-9 p.m. Sunday.

Always a highlight of the festival is the popular menu of homemade and ethnic food items that will be available throughout the three-day event. The menu this year includes pierogies, haluski, halupki, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, pizza, funnel cakes, bean soup, chicken soup, hamburger barbecue, sausage sandwiches, meatball sandwiches, pork sandwiches, hot dogs, french fries, bleenies and fried Oreos.

Once again, attendees will be able to bid on a variety of themed baskets that were donated by family members/parishioners.

Other drawing prizes will include cash, a Weber Genesis Smart Tech Grill or Blackstone 4-Burner Griddle, $500 vouchers for coal or oil, and a 65-inch Vizio 4K Smart TV.
