3, including baby in car seat, transported from crash scene

Three passengers who were in a vehicle that was involved in a crash at 1:30 a.m. Thursday on Route 309 in Lynn Township were transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Township, state police at the Fogelsville barracks said.

Taken there by personnel from the Cetronia Ambulance Corps, police said, were Genesis Castillo-Nunez, 20, and Katherin Nunez Melendez, 44, both of Palmerton, who police said had suspected minor injuries, and an infant, also from Palmerton, whom police said had possible injuries and was in a rear-facing child seat.

Police described the baby boy as a newborn.

The three were in a 2024 BMW X1 that was driven by Jayson A. Vazquez, 23, of Palmerton, who was uninjured, as was a fourth passenger, Nicole N. Castillo Martinez, 19, of Detroit, Michigan, police said.

The BMW was eastbound on Mountain Road when it traveled into the lanes of Route 309 and was struck by a northbound 1999 Peterbilt operated by Taylor J. Lacoe, 21, of Kunkletown, police said.

They said that after the initial impact, the BMW spun 360 degrees and landed on its side. The vehicle was towed from the scene, while the Peterbilt was able to be driven from the scene.

Vazquez was cited after the crash, police said.
