Pengelly secures 3A first-team spot

Palmerton’s Cameron Pengelly added another honor to one of the finest pitching careers in school history after earning Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association Class 3A First Team All-State recognition.

The Times News Baseball Player of the Year capped a dominant senior season by going 7-1 with a 1.32 ERA while striking out a school-record 121 batters in 79 2/3 innings.

He also threw one of two career no-hitters this spring while helping lead the Blue Bombers to the District 11 Class 3A semifinals.

Pengelly leaves Palmerton as the program’s career leader in strikeouts (245), wins (20) and innings pitched (186 1/3). He also holds the school records for single-season strikeouts (121), innings pitched (79 2/3) and shares the single-game strikeout mark with 15.

The first-team all-state selection is the latest recognition for Pengelly, who was also named the Colonial League Pitcher of the Year and the Times News Baseball Player of the Year following his record-setting senior campaign.

Pengelly will continue his academic and baseball career at Bloomsburg University.
