A 50-year-old Palmerton woman is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after police made a traffic stop at 2 a.m. June 13.

State police at the Fogelsville barracks said that she drove a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee into a DUI checkpoint that was set up at Broadway and Ash Street, Salisbury Township. Police smelled a moderate odor of alcohol emanating from her and the vehicle.

The woman was administered several standardized field sobriety tests and subsequently arrested after it was determined that she was too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle, police said. Police did not release her name.
