Tamaqua museum has 38-star flag on display

The Tamaqua Historical Society Museum, 118 W. Broad St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The special opening will follow the 10 a.m. dedication of the new Liberty Tree Park on Railroad Street.

For America’s 250th birthday, see the 38-star flag from 1876 on display. The 150-year-old flag measures 20 by 30 feet when fully opened.

Visitors won’t want to miss the newly renovated and expanded “J.G. Scott Art Gallery” in the museum with the special “175 Years of Tamaqua Area Art” exhibit.

There are countless other artifacts and exhibits celebrating the rich history and culture of the greater Tamaqua area to be enjoyed at the museum.

At 2 p.m., join society members in front of the museum to ring your bells in commemoration of “Bells Across America,” a nationwide celebration of the 250th.

The society will ring a steam locomotive bell 13 times at 2 p.m. honoring the signing of the Declaration of Independence 250 years ago.
