Palmerton Community Band to perform Sunday

The Palmerton Community Band will perform a classic “American Celebration” band concert at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Palmerton Borough Park, weather permitting).

Under the direction of Mitchell Hourt, the band will play music composed to celebrate the USA by Sousa including “Liberty Bell March,” “Semper Fedelis” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.” George M. Cohan’s music will have everyone singing “Give My Regards to Broadway, “Yankee Doodle Dandy and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”

The band will lift their voices to “God of Our Fathers” by Smith and “On the Mall” by Edwin Franko Goldman and also re-create a classic European flavor with “Old Vienna” by K.L. King.

Trumpet soloist for the concert is John DeSousa who will perform the Puccini operatic aria, “Nessum Dorma” from Turandot.

No Independence Day concert would be complete without “America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America” and “Armed Forces Salute.”

Conductor Mitchell Hourt added, “We hope everyone will come out to share in this concert which continues a long-standing tradition of celebrating our nation. All across our country, people are gathering in big cities and small towns on the July 4 weekend to celebrate our country with music.”

Since its founding in 1911, the band has continued the tradition of public music performances offered free to the community. This concert is coordinated by the Bandstand Committee of the Palmerton Concourse Club with financial support provided by the Harry Brown estate.
