Northwestern’s Perich excelling in minors

Northwestern graduate Rafe Perich is turning in a solid season so far in the Texas Rangers minor league system.

The former Tiger and Lehigh University standout started the year in high-A ball with the Hub City Spartanburgers before being promoted to double-A Frisco.

At Hub City, Perich hit .303 with 11 homers and 34 RBIs in 38 games. He went 43-for-142 at the plate and also added four doubles and three triples while scoring 34 runs. He had a .606 slugging percentage and an OPS (on-base plus slugging) of 1.000. In the month of May, the 24-year-old had 10 homers, 29 RBIs and an OPS of 1.195 to earn the South Atlantic League Player of the Month award.

Since being called up to Frisco on May 29, Perich has continued to hit. With the RoughRiders, he has played 24 games and hit .293 (27-for-92) with eight doubles, a triple and six homers. He has scored 28 runs and knocked in 23. He has slugged .598 and owns an OPS there of .996.

Perich was drafted by the Rangers in the seventh round of the 2024 MLB amateur draft.
