Police to file charges over dog attack
Charges are expected to be filed against a dog owner whose dog was responsible for several dog attacks Tuesday in Palmerton.
Borough police patrolman Adam Shimer said that police investigated multiple reported dog attacks involving a loose Great Dane owned by David Capobianco.
Shimer said the first incident occurred near borough hall, where the unleashed Great Dane reportedly attacked another dog being walked by a resident.
The resident told police the Great Dane pinned the other dog to the ground before the owner intervened.
No injuries to the victim’s dog were immediately reported.
While investigating that incident, officers were dispatched to Palmerton Borough Park for a second reported attack involving the same dog. A woman reported the Great Dane attacked her dog, causing it to flee and take shelter under a bridge. Fire department personnel were called to assist in recovering the frightened animal.
The dog suffered injuries requiring veterinary treatment. During the recovery effort, the dog bit its owner who required medical attention for a hand injury.
Later that day, another victim reported that the Great Dane allegedly attacked his dog in the park. He stated he was forced to physically intervene to stop the attack and reported that his dog was not injured.
Police contacted Capobianco, and advised him of state requirements regarding dogs involved in biting incidents.
He was instructed to provide proof of the dog’s records to the police department within 48 hours.
The incidents have been reported to the Pennsylvania Dog Warden, and police indicated that appropriate charges and citations will be filed in connection with the alleged violations.
The investigation remains ongoing.
