Father seeks to name Slatedale park in son’s memory

At the Washington Township meeting from May 5, the treasurer’s report was approved for March 2026.

The supervisors approved the following:

• Resolution 2026-06 for disposal of municipal records via the Municipal Records Manual.

• Resolution 2026-07 for selling of Township equipment.

• Award the road paving bid to New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc. at a base bid price of $367,128.16 to include the alternate bid price of $99,769.20 for a total bid price of $466,897.36. This is for Bottom Road, Oakwood, Cider Press, Phillips and Valley roads.

• Hire Ayden Oswald for summer help at the budgeted wage of $17 per hour with no benefits.

• Disabled Veterans Real Property Tax Exemption for Linde Roth, 3616 Oak Ridge Drive, Slatington.

• Disabled Veterans Real Property Tax Exemption for Phillip MacSparran, 4217 Carolyn Drive, Slatington.

Under Public Comment, Doug Mankos, of 9239 N. Loop Road, said, “The township crew butchered a lot of trees on Loop Road. They cut branches off 8 to 10 feet up in the air and never cleaned up the road or my property or my neighbors. We had to go out and clean up, and then finish cutting branches that were just left hanging. I feel the crew needs more supervision or more training.” Manager Wade Marlatt will look into it.

Resident Jeremy Frable, of 7618 Williamstown Lane, came to ask about naming the Slatedale Park after his son, Chase, who passed away in August of 2021.

Frable said, “Chase was an athlete who played ball at Slatedale Park and coached there. I will make a yearly donation to the township for grass cutting or whatever is needed.”

The supervisors said they would discuss it.

From the Washington Township meeting on June 2, the approved the following:

• Treasurer’s report/bank /reconciliation for April 2026.

• Britton Properties LLC, of 3957 Mountain Road, for waiver request to SALDO section 200 to allow for a preliminary/final submission, waiver request for SALDO section 311 to allow a 1-inch equals 30-foot scale of the plans, and Resolution 2026-08 conditional approval for lot line adjustment.

• Application for creation of an Agricultural Security Area at 4328 Cider Press Road, Slatington, 38.53 acres, to advertise for six months.

• Resolution 2026-09 to apply for the Automated Red Light Enforcement Grant to buy two solar powered speed signs.

• 2026-10 disposal of specific municipal documents before 2019.

• The release of the budgeted $600 stipend for emergency management coordinator, Matt Stephens, for 2026.

• The release of the budgeted $3,000 to the Wildlife Information Center for 2026.

• The release of the budgeted $2,000 to the Slatington Historical Preservation Society for the 2026 donation.

• The release of the budgeted $200 to Meals on Wheels for the 2026 donation.

• Tabled the replacement of two air conditioner units until three estimates are obtained.

Josh Siegel, Lehigh County executive, attended the meeting, along with Samantha Pearson, director of Community & Economic Development.

Siegel said, “I would like to start having people use the county as a resource and would like to help with grants or if there is anything anyone would like, they can reach out.”

The supervisors thanked him.

During public comment, Jeremy Frable attended the meeting to check on his request for the Slatedale Park be named in memory of his son, Chase.

Frable said, “I was here last month at the meeting to ask about naming the Slatedale Park after my son, Chase. Have you discussed it? If it is possible to do this, I would like to know before July 19, that is when he passed away.”

Chairman Shawn Wanamaker said, “We have talked about it. We would like a letter in writing with your request. We may not have an answer at the July meeting, but we should have one at the August meeting.”
