Lehigh Township supervisors

Lehigh Township supervisors conducted the following business this month:

• Supervisors approved advertising Ordinance 2026-3, which includes amendments to township noise regulations.

• The board accepted the lone bid for the township’s 2026 oil-and-chip road project from AMS Asphalt Maintenance Solutions LLC in the amount of $190,475.25 for work on Municipal, Butternut, Cork and Pear roads.

“We have used them before. They are good,” Township Manager Alice Rehrig said.

Residents also asked about different grades used in oil-and-chip paving. Township Engineer Mike Muffley explained the grade refers to the ratio of materials used.

“The stone is what determines the texture, durability and color,” he said. “The grades are chosen based on the local climate and traffic.”

• John Laubach of the Lehigh Township Fire Company said the fire company did not have a report due to software upgrades.

• Discussion also continued over a proposed land preservation effort. Zach Szotes said a second video about land preservation has been posted online and town halls are planned for July and August at the Blue Mountain Fish and Game Association. A newsletter is also expected soon.

Resident Merion Miller questioned the effort, saying too few residents would benefit from taxing the entire township.

“Why are you letting this small group of people dictate to us about land preservation?” Miller asked. “There are 10,000 people in the township.”

He urged that opposing viewpoints be represented at upcoming town halls. Supervisors said all residents are welcome to participate.

• Residents also questioned why the upper ball field at Danielsville Park has been locked.

Park board President Mike Jones said the decision was made by Rehrig, Public Works Director Frank Zamadics and himself because of repeated vandalism.

“It’s been locked for two years,” Jones said. “There was a lot of destruction up there.”

Supervisors Janet Sheats and Cindy Miller said they were unaware of the decision.

Supervisors Gerald Pritchard and David Hess were absent from the meeting.
