Weatherly Alumni awards scholarship
The Weatherly Area High School Alumni Association recently announced the 2026 WAHSAA Scholarship recipient. Kelly Reiner, daughter of Mark and Tammy Reiner, of Packer Township, Weatherly, has been awarded the $15,000 scholarship from her graduating class.
A Weatherly Area School District graduate, Reiner graduated in the top five of her class.
Reiner was vice-president of her senior class, president of National Honor Society, vice president of Interact Club and treasurer of Yearbook.
Reiner participated in Junior Leadership in Hazleton, Weatherly Hillclimb, Weatherly Festival, Weatherly Blacktop Bash and Halloween Parade.
Her involvement in activities included: varsity girls’ basketball, volleyball, and track and field.
Reiner’s plans are to attend Misericordia University pursuing a career as a diagnostic medical sonographer. Her goal is to become a perinatal sonographer.
The scholarship fund was established in the name of the Weatherly Area High School Alumni Association. The Scholarship Committee of that alumni association devised the guidelines and plan of operation. The wealth of the fund has grown over the years by contributions and donations made by people and organizations interested in education. This money has been invested in various instruments which make up the principal of the fund.
The association desires that the investment interest from the fund be used only to provide scholarships to Weatherly Area School District students who graduate from Weatherly Area High School or the Carbon County Vocational Technical School. The scholarship is to be used for extended education at an institution of higher education or a more specialized institution of learning, which isapproved by the Scholarship Program Committee.
