A 45-year-old Schuylkill Haven man died after he was struck by a vehicle while operating an electric bicycle at 11:11 p.m. Thursday on Route 61 in North Manheim Township.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said the man, who they did not identify, was pronounced dead after being transported by personnel from the Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven Area EMS corps to he Lehigh Valley Hospital-East, Pottsville.

Police said the incident occurred when a 2024 International operated northbound by Edwin J. Viera, 38, of Vineland, New Jersey, struck the bicycle that was traveling along the right shoulder of the road. They said Viera told them he was traveling in the right-most lane of Route 61 when the front bumper of the vehicle struck the rear of the cycle.

The International had minor cosmetic damages, police said.
