Letter to the editor: Corporate Welfare

Let’s not forget “Corporate welfare” socialism in the form of subsidies. The 2008 collapse of U.S. housing caused by predatory subprime lending, when millions lost their homes and faced hardship, while U.S. tax payers paid massive subsidies (TARP) to big name banks and giant insurance companies to the tune of $700 Billion. Today, “private equity” is gobbling up American homes.

The U.S. Industrial Military Complex. Bush’s “Strategy of Freedom” (WMD on false claims) and Middle East Wars, cost American tax payers many $Trillions; with how many geopolitical victories? As our country crumbled. Now, the Iranian war.

Switcheroo. Republican conservative CPAC had Authoritarian Viktor Orban as speaker five times; with the unmitigated gall to describe Democrats as radical, socialists, and communists. Wash, rinse, repeat, repeat, repeat. Disordered thinking, and playing favor to Autocrats, threatening the sovereignty of other nations, hostility toward our NATO allies, and military in the streets. And, now, $45 billion for ICE internment deportation concentration camps. America has lost its way.

This administration has decreased care for Veterans. There has been “significant shifting of funds” for Veterans in the 2027 budget, with deep cuts to Department of Housing, cutting of nearly 28,000 employees, including nurses, psychologists and claims evaluators.

American democracy is under serious threat. The SAVE Act forecasted their intentions, already in 6 Red states married women who changed their last name had trouble with proving citizenship.

Now, decreasing black voting districts.

Since July 2025, USAID (U.S. soft power) stopped operations. This administration cut global infection control programs, and disease surveillance of deadly pathogens; cut billions in grants for clean energy, and made sweeping changes to the NSF (National Science Foundation.)

When the richest person on this earth (Elon Musk) cut USAID funding for the poorest people on this earth, let food rot in warehouses, and financially hurt American farmers who grow the staples, tells me all I need to know about today’s Republican Party.

“Pleased to meet you, hope you guessed my name.” 1968.
