Boys and Girls Band to hold spring concert
The Boys and Girls Band of Lehighton will hold its annual spring concert, which will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley.
This special afternoon performance is free and open to the public, and the community is warmly invited to attend.
The concert will feature a diverse and engaging program of music performed by the talented student musicians of the band, showcasing months of preparation, growth and dedication. The program offers something for everyone, ranging from energetic rock classics and cinematic adventures to lyrical solos and expressive hymns.
Audiences will be treated to selections including “High Adventure” by Paul Lavender, which brings a cinematic, movie-soundtrack feel filled with bold themes and dramatic energy. “Shake, Rattle and Roll,” arranged by Bob Lowden, delivers a lively rock ‘n’ roll classic full of rhythm and nostalgia. The concert also features “In a Gentle Rain” by Robert W. Smith, featuring Lehighton Area High School senior Abby Ehrig on clarinet in a reflective and expressive solo performance that highlights the piece’s warm and lyrical character.
Additional highlights include “I Dreamed a Dream,” arranged by Michael Brown, featuring Palmerton Area High School senior Alex Beblavy on trumpet, as well as the smooth and jazzy “The Pink Panther,” arranged by Michael Story and transcribed by director Cressley, showcasing a special duet between Amanda Gowin (saxophone), a senior at Carbon Career & Technical Institute, and Lydia Hessinger (clarinet), a senior at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts.
The program continues with inspiring selections such as “One Voice,” arranged by Eric Osterling; the nostalgic “Song from MAS*H,” arranged by Bob Lowden; and the heartfelt “Childhood Hymn,” based on “Jesus Loves Me” by Bradbury.
The concert also features “Soft Breeze” by Schmidt, the spirited “Eagle Summit March” by O’Reilly and Williams, and the classic rock anthem “We Will Rock You,” arranged by Michael Sweeney.
The concert concludes with “El Niño” by O’Reilly, a vibrant Latin-inspired work that serves as the final number of the afternoon, bringing the performance to an energetic and exciting close.
This concert promises an afternoon of musical variety, student achievement, and community celebration.
