Tamaqua raising funds for Liberty tree
All are invited to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States — and support Tamaqua’s Liberty Tree Park while doing so.
A “250th Birthday Bash and Tamaqua Liberty Tree Park Fundraiser” will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Valley Golf Course, 1021 Brockton Mountain Dr., Barnesville.
“It will be a great event to help support this important new park in our community, and our county’s very own Liberty Tree seedling,” explained the Rev. Dillon Epler, cochairman of the Tamaqua Liberty Tree Park Committee and pastor of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tamaqua. “What a way to ring in the 250th in our local community.”
There will be an auction of art from local artists, opportunities to have photos taken with historical figures, live music, food and more.
The event will feature food stations with local favorites including barbecue turkey sliders from Koch’s Turkey Farm in the Lewistown Valley; pizza bites from DiMaggio’s La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua; pierogies from Mrs. T’s in Shenandoah, and kielbasa and cheese from Kowalonek’s in Shenandoah. There will also be bruschetta, fruits, vegetables and assorted local dessert favorites.
Music will be provided by The Jolly Tars, a group that performs music of the American Civil War; songs from the mines, railroads and factories; and popular tunes from past eras.
Even Ben Franklin will be on hand for photos, organizers said.
The celebration will include a local art auction, 50/50 raffle and chances to win a Liberty Tree quilt.
Attire is business casual and semiformal — but attendees are encouraged to bring out their best patriotic dress.
