Palmerton Borough Council on Thursday approved the first reading/advertisement of an ordinance amending the zoning ordinance for adding use and regulations for data centers.
Before the vote, Councilman Kris Hoffner said the borough has used PennFuture to establish guidelines, and that the borough public relations, borough planning commission and Carbon County Planning Commission reviewed it.
“It’s very comprehensive, very restrictive,” Hoffner said. “I feel it’s a quality ordinance for the regulation of data centers.”
Hoffner added that a public hearing for the ordinance will be held at borough council’s June 25 meeting.
Council members Holly Hausman-Sell and Timothy Gursky Jr. were absent.
The borough is one of several area municipalities that are in the process of working on data center ordinances.
