Jim Thorpe Lions present Student of the Month awards

The Jim Thorpe Lions Club presented its annual Student of the Month awards at a dinner Tuesday evening at the Jim Thorpe Area High School.

The students and their parent(s)/guardians enjoyed a dinner prepared by the school cafeteria staff. Dinner included roast beef, chicken cordon bleu, stuffed shells, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and gravy. Desserts included chocolate peanut butter cake, raspberry cake and cookies.

The Lions have been presenting the Student of the Month awards since 1974. The faculty at the high school chooses the winners of the awards.

“While academic criteria is important, it is not the primary consideration in the selection process,” Lion President Jim Logue explained. “The recipients do not need to be the best in a particular subject, but have demonstrated the desire to succeed in that subject.”

One student was chosen each month October through May, excluding December; but, two in April, each in a different course of study.

The student chosen for October in the Business Education category was KaylaAnn Kandy, from Albrightsville; November, Physical Education, Connor Zurawa, Jim Thorpe; January, Music, Lila DeJessa, Jim Thorpe; February, Art, Makayla Eberly, Albrightsville; March, Technical Education, Abigael Kuhn; April, Foreign Language-German, Samantha Exner, Jim Thorpe, and Foreign Language-Spanish, Keira Reese, Jim Thorpe; and May, Computer Technology, Gabriella Cerra, Albrightsville.
