Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on the following items during their meeting last week.

• In a 2-1 vote, approved an agreement with Wellpath LLC to provide inmate health care services at the correctional facility at a total cost of $4,301,417.63 for two years. Commissioner Rocky Ahner voted no on the agreement due to questions he felt were not fully addressed in the company’s original bid. The commissioners chose Wellpath from three bidders last month. Ahner had voted no in that decision as well.

• Approved two declarations of easement ingress and egress between the county and Jim Thorpe that will permit the borough to utilize the county land from Lentz Trail to the borough’s sewer collection system to install, maintain, service and replace a sewer lateral from Lentz Trail.• Approved several whole home repair project contracts. Bids had been opened on May 7.

• Approved a contract for refuse collection and single stream recycling to Waste Management of Pennsylvania Inc. of Kutztown, which bid $249,096.18, for a three-year term beginning July 1.

• Reappointed Kim Miller to the Pocono Counties Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Development for a three-year term commencing July 1.

• Renewed a maintenance support agreement with C-K Alarm Systems of Mountain Top to provide 24/7 hardware support on the 911 alarm monitoring system for one year at a total cost of $4,164 a year.

• Approved an agreement with Quincy Technology Solutions Inc. of Woodbridge, Connecticut, for an unlimited license software and maintenance for the coroner’s office at a cost of $4,837 for the license and $3,813 for hosting.

• Approved a quote from Schindler Elevator Corporation of Allentown for a Siemens Soft Starter upgrade for the administration building elevator at a total cost of $7,449.

• Ratified an estimate from Reading Mechanical and Utility Contracting Inc. of Frackville to replace the HVAC system with a new Daiken heat pump system, outdoor unit and air handler unit for courtroom 2 in the courthouse at a cost of $12,645.02.

• Approved giving $8,316 of the Attorney General Opioid Settlement dollars to the county drug treatment court to cover the cost for nine drug treatment court members to attend a Pennsylvania Treatment Court Professionals conference at State College Oct. 7-9.

• Approved the payment of $50,000 to the Synchronicity Recovery Community from the AG Settlement dollars for year-round recovery support for county residents impacted by opioid and substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health.

• Adopted a proclamation recognizing the achievement of Weatherly Area School District’s Advisory Council, initially called the Teens Against Tobacco Use, receiving a $1,000 stipend to assist with the Commonwealth Prevention Alliance’s Youth Prevention Alliance.
